MUSHROOMS AND LIGHT

Contrary to popular belief, most mushrooms require light to in order to develop properly and true to form. Mushrooms use light in different wavelengths to manufacture vitamin D and to develop their unique colours and compounds. Here is a picture from our grow room – of a Cordyceps militaris crop that was not exposed to light. The fungus still produced fruiting bodies but these remained white. However, within a day of exposure to light, the usual bright orange – gold colour started to develop.
